My Precious Dog Timber

Timbers' Story

timber.jpg

This is a tragic story about how money makes the world go round!!!  I have designed this website to show you all how life could be just a little bit different if you just had credit.....It all started about two years ago when I moved in with my boyfriend and we decided to get a dog.  After having just one dog for a few weeks we thought that she could use a playmate and we then got a second.  They were our inseparable pair.....Zoe and Timber.  These two dogs definitely didn't have the best manners, they were mischevious at the best of times.... they barked, jumped on people, stole food off our counter, took over our bed at night (a king size bed suddenly doesn't seem so king size when you put two big dogs in it with you!!!) but despite all of these things they were OUR dogs and we love them very much!!! Tragically on August 23,2005 we recieved a phone call that would change all of this forever....I had returned home to find that our dogs had jumped the fence and decided to go for a walk on their own.  Zoe quickly made her way home and began barking at the front door so I let her in and called Timber a few times.  When he didn't come I decided to place a "missing dog" call to the local shelter.  While I was doing this I recieved a call on the other line, I answered it only to hear on the other end that Timber had been hit by a train and that I needed to get to the clinic immediately!!!  After a quick phone call to my boyfriend I grabbed the cheque book and tearfully headed to the clinic where Timber had been taken.  When I arrived I was bombarded with a bunch of paperwork asking me how I was going to pay for everything.  Just wanting to know how Timber was doing I shakily completed the forms but noticed that they did not have a payment option for cheques.  I told the lady at the front desk that I would just write her a cheque for whatever I couldn't afford that day....we didnt' care what it was going to cost, we just wanted to take our dog home where he belonged!!  The lady looked at me with no expression on her face and said "I'm sorry maam, we don't accept personal cheques.  Have a seat and the vet will be out to speak with you in a moment."  Full of anxiety and worry I waited....after being called into a room I was told that Timbers' back leg had been severed and that he would need surgery to have it amputated.  At this point they did not know what else could be wrong with him but he absolutely needed the surgery.  The vet then gave me an estimated cost of the surgery....I cried even harder.  I told her that the only way we could afford it is if we paid over time with post-dated cheques.  I was so rudely informed once again that it was their policy not to accept personal cheques but they did have a credit card we could apply for if that would help us.  Knowing that in the past we had very poor credit I knew that this was not an option.  What else were we to do......feeling like we were at the end of our rope we decided that the only option we had left was to put our loving dog to sleep.  I then notified the vet of our decision and without any sympathy she turned and said "I'll go get the paperwork."  I will spare you the rest of the story but once everything was said and done I returned to the front desk to make payment for all of the services that had been rendered.  Somehow the bill had reached $200.....it was at this point that I informed the receptionist that all I had was $46 on me.  Without batting an eye she then accepted two post-dated cheques for the remaining balance.

With a pain in my heart I turned and walked away only to wonder a couple of things:  Why did such a beautiful creature have to be taken in such a cruel manner and Why was his death worth my money but not his life!!!

Moral of Timbers' Story

Money has become more precious than life in our world and that is very sad.  And for us that was a lesson learned the very, very hard way.

We love you and miss you Timber....you will always be in our hearts. xoxox
